We have a Fort Worth client that is in need of an .Net Application Developer who has done some complicated scientific or engineering applications, not just the usual read/write from a database and add a few reports.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required (Please explain briefly)

At least 7 years experience designing and developing highly configurable business applications utilizing object oriented languages. At least 3 of these years should be using C# .Net. Experience should include interfacing with relational databases, such as SQL Server or Oracle, including complex SQL statement development.

At least 5 years experience working directly with clients to understand their needs, preferably in an Oil and Gas Engineering environment. Must be able to communicate at an appropriate level and translate what was understood into high quality software.

Desirable knowledge includes Postscript and Aries software from Landmark.

Duties & Responsibilities (Please explain briefly)

Responsible for technical support for the Engineering Reserves team. Main responsibilities will be enhancing and supporting web and windows based applications that extend the functionality of the Aries application and databases using C#.Net and SQL Server.

Will also be responsible for writing ad hoc programs to support the needs of the clients throughout the Reserves reporting cycle.

Job Description:

This position will be primarily responsible for day to day operations including but not limited to, internal projects, advanced trouble shooting of network and VoIP related issues, monitoring, patch management, standards, and documentation.

· Uses knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to help design and install internal and external networks.

· Tests and evaluates network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements.

· Sets up, configures, and supports internal and/or external networks on both Cisco (IOS) and Juniper (JUNOS) platforms.

· Develops and maintains systems, applications, security and network configurations.

· Utilizes current network monitoring systems to troubleshoot network performance issues and works with senior staff members to create and maintain disaster recovery plans.

· Recommends upgrades, patches, and new applications and equipment.

· Provides technical support and guidance to users.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree plus 4-6 years experience in the field or related area (Additional experience may be substituted for degree)
In-depth knowledge of network security, wireless devices, routing principals and network architecture with a working knowledge of Voice over IP (VoIP) and some specialization with networking components such as routers, switches, firewalls and etc.
Must have in-depth knowledge of Juniper and Cisco hardware.
Must have experience with PCI compliance and security
Prefer certification in VoIP or other Network technologies
Familiar with a variety of the fields concepts, practices and procedures
Must have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to produce detailed network diagrams using MS Visio
Demonstrated ability to coach/guide junior team members

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree and 6-8 years experience in networking and a minimum of 3 years experience with network security

· Experienced with a variety of the fields’ concepts, practices and procedures.

· Experience with PCI

· Must have excellent communication and documentation skills

IT staffing firm Robert Half Technology recently asked the following question of 1,400 IT leaders, from companies with more than 100 employees: “In which functional area is it most challenging to find skilled IT professionals?” The answer was something of a mixed bag and one that leaves many questions about the state of IT hiring. The execs mentioned a number of specific tasks that are going begging, with spots in networking, security and help desk support taking the top spots. IT Consulting: IT Contract Work Is Up, Permanent Hiring Slowly Increasing

Technology contractors appear to be seeing the best growth rates in hiring. For high-demand IT architecture and project management jobs, the salary picture is promising.

If you have in-demand skills, your asking price is probably above market rate—even with the slow growth of technology jobs, say hiring managers and recruiters polled in an August survey by online job board Dice.com.

Fifty-one percent of 1,350 IT decision makers polled said they are having to sweeten salaries for highly sought-after tech talent, though about 22 percent of workers are not willing to leave their current jobs. Caution about the economy is still in the air for employers and workers alike. But if you are receiving offers, don’t be afraid to try to get the best salary possible.

“Indeed, money dominates the enticement list, whether it’s higher salaries or sign-on bonuses sometimes necessary to help with relocation,” Tom Silver, senior vice president of Dice, said in a Sept. 8 statement. “But No. 3 on the list might surprise you: flexible work options, including telecommuting.”

The rise of telecommuting is one of those win/win situations for employers and employees alike: Companies get to save on office space costs such as leases, power consumption and insurance, and employees get to stay closer to their families, save on commuting costs and have a bit more hourly flexibility. Plus, employees will more likely start their days earlier thanks to a nonexistent commute.

“Technology jobs with a telecommuting option have doubled on the Dice site year [over] year,” Silver said. “Still, they remain less than 1 percent of the total jobs available. Corporations may want to consider giving more tech employees the option of telecommuting. Not only might such a policy attract and keep talent, it can offer real cost savings, as well.”

IT Staffing: Tech Jobs Grow During First Half of 2010

Job growth indicates that the technology industry is creeping out of the recession, according to a tech industry trade group.

The U.S. high-tech industry is showing signs of job growth and economic recovery, having added 30,200 tech jobs during the first half of 2010, according to the TechAmerica Foundation, whose data is based on numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The TechAmerica Foundation, a nonprofit advocacy group for the technology industry, tracked job growth in three of four sectors of the technology industry between January and June 2010. The tech services sector added the most jobs (29,700) during that period, followed by the software services sector, which netted 14,200 jobs. Technology manufacturers ranked third, with 9,100 net new jobs between January and June 2010.

Communications services, which includes Internet and telecom companies, was the one sector of the technology industry that lost jobs during the first half of the year. It dropped 22,800 jobs.

“As one of the last industries to feel the effects of the recession, the technology industry now appears to be slowly turning the corner with the rest of the economy,” said Phil Bond, president and CEO of TechAmerica, in a statement.

But employment in the tech industry still has a ways to go before it gets back up to even early 2009 levels. As of June 2010, tech industry employment reached 5.78 million workers, compared to 5.99 million in January 2009.
