Description

The Network Engineer will evaluate, install and support network communications equipment, including switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, wireless controllers, and wireless access points.  The Network Engineer also manages network architecture design and services including DNS and DHCP, ensures compliance with all client security policies and standards, and provides IS support for the development and implementation of network systems to meet new and evolving business and security requirements.  Additionally, the Network Engineer contributes to and assists in implementing overall strategic goals for technology infrastructure and security in collaboration with IS Network Services team.

* Design, monitor, and support of a nation-wide network ensuring reliability, high availability, scalability, and cost effectiveness.
* Configure network hardware (Juniper EX switches, Juniper SRX secure gateways, Juniper SSG firewalls, F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Managers, Aruba wireless controllers), software, and connections (MPLS, IP VPN, Internet, etc.).
* Use diagnostic tools and techniques for troubleshooting network hardware and software.  This will include analyzing captured packets and procedures for approaching and fixing network problems.
* Assist in the testing, selection, placement, implementation, documentation, operation, and maintenance of various network technologies including authentication devices, access controls, firewalls, routers, switches, IDS/IPS/SIM systems and analysis tools.
* Provide Level 2+ support and problem resolution for workstation and server network problems.
* Assist the information security team in monitoring and evaluating new security vulnerability alerts.  Address vulnerabilities in networking systems, make recommendations for improving security, and implement recommendations.
* Liaison with client IS development groups and other internal customers for network issues and projects.
* Interface with Sr. Management as necessary, providing reports, presentations, and recommendations covering the operational aspects of the network.  Identify risks and system needs, define solutions and appropriate standards, establish standards and procedures.
* Provide technical leadership to team members.
* Assist internal and external auditors as required.
* Successful track record of technical project delivery within a Network systems environment.
* Must be able to work outside normal hours in order to perform diagnosis and/or implementation of product releases or changes, so that normal workflow is not interrupted.
* On-call duties will be required in a team environment.

Education/Training:

* College degree – Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
* Special Skills and Certificates: Juniper certifications preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP networking.  Must be able to demonstrate technical understanding of all layers of the protocol stack, including familiarity with major application-layer protocols such as SMB, HTTP, SMTP, and DNS.  Must be able to read and understand a packet trace.
* Experience in deploying 802.1x Network Access Control
* Knowledge in wireless networking and prevention of rogue access points.
* Strong organizational and communication skills, both written and oral.
* Able to demonstrate strong leadership and team building skills.
* Able to manage multiple medium to large scale projects simultaneously.
* Proven analytical / problem solving ability.
* Demonstrated ability to learn new skills quickly.
* Able to work and contribute to a team environment and work independently when needed.
* Familiarity with at least two of the IS Security and Industry related regulations (Sarbanes – Oxley, PCI DSS, Healthcare Information Privacy Protection Act (HIPPA), SB 1386).
* Strong customer service skills.

Work Experience

Qualified and successful candidates will have at least five+ years of IT experience defining and implementing best practices and hands-on work with firewalls, routers, switches, security auditing, VPNs, remote access, wireless controllers, and overall network design.  Prior experience with Juniper network equipment running Junos and ScreenOS required.  Familiarity with F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Managers and Aruba Wireless controllers a plus.  Candidates should be able to implement and support routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP and EIGRP and network technologies such as, MPLS, OC-3, and DS3.
